Family Centred Practise

Kids Are Kids! Therapy and Education Centre is a Family Centred Practice.
This approach recognises the expertise of the family in best knowing the needs of the child.  Families and therapy professionals’ work together to set goals based on the families objectives. With the aide of therapists, the families’ goals for the child are broken down into smaller achievable steps and a plan for achieving these steps is developed.

Government Funded Programmes

Kids Are Kids! provides a range of government funded programs including Better Start for Children With Disability, Helping Children with Autism, Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan services and Child Development Service Speech Pathology services.

Individual Programmes

Kids are Kids! provides a range of individual and group services to children and their families:

Children with Acquired Brain Injury

Often when a child has a head injury it is a time of great stress for the family.  Immediately post-accident the family will spend most of their time in the hospital receiving all therapy and medical services until their child is in a medically stable condition.  Once the condition has been stabilised the child may be discharged into the care of their parents or guardians.  It is at this point the family can choose whether to remain as an outpatient and continue to receive hospital based therapy services, or may choose to receive community based therapy services which may occur in a range of settings.

How to Help

As a non-profit organisation Kids Are Kids! relies on the ongoing community support in order to maintain services. This support may be in the form of direct financial assistance through donations, membership, grants to subsidise specific programmes, fundraising or individuals volunteering their services at the centre.

Early Intervention Programme

In 2000 KIDS ARE KIDS! Successfully applied to the Disability Services Commission to become a preferred provider of early intervention therapy services.  This offered families an alternative to other government funded early intervention therapy service providers.

Group Programmes

All group programmes have a minimum of one therapy/professional staff member and one assistant – where the larger groups have full quota of participants, 2 therapists will be made available.
